As my '12 Maxima is too lowbrow for the matriarch of my family, I'm being sent to retrieve her for Thanksgiving in a '13 750Li. It's a last second sort of deal, my mom broke a rib while running (and subsequently violently falling on a parking stop) so we're bringing Thanksgiving to her instead.

My strange love for long distance driving made me the obvious choice for this task, but I do meet the 6 hours on the way back in a car with an 89 year-old with no short term memory with some trepidation. She will ask me the same three questions and make the same three self-deprecating comments in a tight rotation, no fewer than a hundred times on this trip. She's not as far gone as she'd have people think, but she sure does like to ham it up. Oh, and she's never liked radio of any sort to be played in a car, complete silence is the only way she rolls.

Hopefully the 445 bhp will help with the discomfort (and the massaging air conditioned seats).

Enjoy the car, they're excellent vehicles. Is it yours? Your families? Rental? Uber?

One of my dad's.

These complicated German cars put me off sometimes, I'm left wondering why there isn't just a fucking button to do the thing I want to do instead of having to navigate through a menu to do it. Spent a week in an S550 recently and found myself glad to be back in my Maxima. Sure it's doesn't haven a gazillion horsepower but it's a half ton lighter and I never have to think about how to do something in that car, it all just makes sense.

Zu dast dizrezpec zee Germans? Zu not like zee menus for zee menus? Vat gut ist a car eef it dozen do everyting but play Space Invaders und geeve you happy fun time en zee liederhosen?

But yeah, my dad's 5er and Accord are both total pains in that department. The Accord less so, but still kind of annoying. Why can't they just do simple luxury à la the W124 or any old Caddy-no BS but ohhhh so comfy? To me, it's just a matter of time before someone gets in a nasty accident from screwing with the menus on the road.
